Our Sunday program continues to focus on creating a language-rich environment with fun, interactive activities to engage students to practice Chinese language and increase their proficiency level. Even in the online classrooms our teachers and students continue to flip the traditional classroom into an engaging blended learning environment full of immersive Chinese language experience. On this platform students leverage their language skills with not only the effective learning tools but the scaffolded support provided by teachers, the classroom interactions, as well as the connection of the peer collaboration. Learning Chinese at CLSC on Sundays opens a new horizon for you to explore. Come and join us! (Register online asap!) Our preschool program is a language immersion program designed especially for our youngest learners. At CLSC, children discover and experience Chinese through songs, stories, and games! A parent and/or caregiver participates in the Chopstix Toddler (ages 18 months to 3 years) and Chopstix 1 (ages 3-4 years) classes, not only introducing new sounds and culture to your child, but also helping parents continue the learning at home. Chopstix 2 (ages 4-5) class is perfect for our young learners who are becoming more independent and are ready to be exposed to character recognition and pre-writing skills.

School Age

Our School Age classes are based on innovative Chinese immersion teaching methods that make language-learning fun. At CLSC, teachers present the language and culture through tailored activities all in Chinese. Children learn how to introduce themselves and others in Chinese, talk about their immediate environment, and express their wishes, needs, and desires. Children are encouraged to interact in Chinese during the class through various activities: stories, creative projects, songs, and educational games. Classes are designed to build and expand upon what was learned in the previous years.

Our curriculum and course offerings have been developed to engage our students in actively learning the language and culture of China, based on age-appropriate topics that are relevant to their daily life. Our Art & Culture program is integrated into our curriculum to develop and expand students’ Chinese learning experience in a manner that is intellectually engaging and motivating.

Explorers 1-5: Our Levels 1 – 5 classes are designed to introduce students to Chinese using age-appropriate, relevant activities to develop their learning. Most students complete this program (at the end of Level 6) at ages 11, 12 or 13. (Some exceptions are possible.) Upon completion, students have the option of continuing their studies in CLSC’s Young Adult program, working with a CLSC private tutor either individually or in a group, or joining a middle school Chinese program if one exists at their school.

Scholars: Our Scholars classes are designed to help students who have completed Explorers 1- 5 classes move to the next level of language learning.

Explorers 1

  • Age: 1st-2nd grade students.
  • Class Time: 10am to 12:30pm
  • For students who attended Chopstix 3 or have sufficient prior experience.

  • Age: 2nd-3rd grade students.
  • Class Time: 10am to 12:30pm
  • This class reviews and expands on topics and materials covered in Explorers 1. For students who attended Explorers 1 or have sufficient prior experience.

  • Age: 3rd-5th grade students.
  • Class Time: 10am to 12:30pm
  • Students will build upon previous knowledge by learning to use them in more complex sentences, phrases, and conversation. For students who attended Explorers 2 or have sufficient prior experience.

Explorers 4

  • Age: 3rd-5th grade students.
  • Class Time: 10am to 12:30pm
  • In this level, students continue to improve their knowledge of Chinese language by reviewing and reinforcing material learned previously, while learning to develop more complex sentence structures.

Explorers 5

  • Age: 4th-6th grade students.
  • Class Time: 10am to 12:30pm
  • In this level, students attain basic language skills for communication in the interpretive, interpersonal and presentational modes. Topics covered include a variety of Chinese culture related lessons such as Chinese festivals, Chinese food, Chinese calendar, and Chinese zodiac animals.

  • For Middle and/or High School Students without prior, or limited learning experience.

  • Age: 5th-7th grade students.
  • Class Time: 10am to 12:30pm
  • Students will review Pinyin, proper pronunciation, and practice Chinese input and lookup on electronic devices while categorizing frequently used characters and vocabulary to enhance character recognition and build a writing foundation. Strengthen existing grammar knowledge and learn new grammatical structures to increase overall language proficiency.

  • Age: 6th-8th grade students.
  • Class Time: 10am to 12:30pm
  • Students will strengthen their overall language proficiency by learning complex sentence structures and developing communication skills through meaningful themes related to daily life. Using textbooks and authentic materials, students will enhance their language and cultural understanding to converse comfortably in everyday topics.

  • Age: 6th-8th grade students.
  • Class Time: 10am to 12:30pm
  • Students will strengthen their overall language proficiency by learning complex sentence structures and developing communication skills through meaningful themes related to daily life. Using textbooks and authentic materials, students will enhance their language and cultural understanding to converse comfortably in everyday topics.

Online AP Chinese

This class focuses on the leverage of students language proficiency for AP testing by practicing effective learning skills and specific language and culture content. Students will be engaged with the language-rich environment to interact with the highly experienced teacher and the peers through online classes and reinforce their practice with the Study Hall time at home.

Speak Chinese from the first class! At CLSC, teachers help adult students build a solid foundation for language learning by incorporating authentic situational exercises introduce you to the structure and use of language in everyday life.

Adult Level 1

  • Class Time: 10am to 11am
  • For adult students who have completed less than 10 hours of Mandarin Chinese.
  • Topics covered include basic introductions, family, directions, days of the week, time and money, etc. 17+ In-person or virtual option available based on majority students’ request.

Dance Class

Designed for dancers of all skill levels, this course offers a captivating journey into traditional and folk dance forms from across China, combining fluid choreography, storytelling, and physical expression.

Chinese Learning Pods are designed for 1 up to 5 students who have a similar age and learning experience. It is always fun to form your own learning pod with the friends or just yourself with the location you prefer, i.e. your home or your friend’s home.
